The Air in Rong's Bedroom

Through packaging, labelling, transportation, and
storage, the intimate personal space of the artist’s
bedroom becomes public.
Bao carefully collected the air from specific areas of
her room and sealed it within individual vacuum
storage bags. Each bag was then shipped under a
carefully labelled courier list, which noted the source
of each package of air – ”the air on the table in Rong’s
bedroom”, ”air under the pillow in Rong’s bedroom”, ”air
in the quilt of Rong’s bedroom”, “space behind Rong’s
bedroom door” and so on.
Using her signature focus on inflatable sculpture, Bao
humorously reflects on the universal commodification
of goods in contemporary culture, using shipping
infrastructure to turn the uniquely personal into a
product.
