The inspiration for the work came from the giant bell-ringing hammers of Buddhist temples, which I replaced with a soft material made of cotton and fiber by replacing the original hard, giant logs with a 2-meter-long cylinder made of sacks suspended in mid-air by two chains, half-bent and dangling like a weak male sexual organ. I put a recording button at one end of the soft bell hammer to record the sound of the temple bell. When the viewer shakes the limp hammer and slams it against the wall, the recording button emits the original recorded bell sound. In this piece, I first softened the original hard hammer so that when a soft pillow hit the wall, it should not make a sound, but at the same time, due to the recording button I put in advance, it made the sound of the bell when it should not. This is a work that requires the audience's participation to complete. When the hammer is hanging in the air, it does not make any sound, and the work is completed only when the audience shakes the huge hammer against the wall again and again and is amazed by the sound of the bell. I believe that the audience's participation, reaction, and experience should be part of my work. By subverting the original function of everyday objects and placing them in different contexts, my work visualizes a rebellion against the microscopic power of the present through an exaggerated sense of strangeness. Her works start from the artificial objects in daily life, and create a sense of absurdity through the elimination of the normal functions of the objects, exploring the power system operating behind urban life. By exaggerating the sense of strangeness, I hope to encourage viewers to not only discover and experience vulnerability, but to be deceived and further question the conventions of the world.
作品的灵感来源于佛教寺庙巨大撞钟的重锤,我通过将原本坚硬的巨大原木制作的重锤更换成了有棉花和纤维组成的软性材料,一根2米长的麻袋制作的圆柱体被两根铁链悬挂在半空中,半弯曲地垂着,好像男性疲软的性器官。我在软性钟锤的一头放入了一个录音按钮,录好了寺庙的钟声。当观众摇起这个疲软的钟锤把它撞向墙壁时,录音按钮就会发出原本录好的钟声。在这个作品里,我首先让原本坚硬的钟锤变软,当一个软枕头撞向墙壁时,本不应该发出声音,但是同时由于我提前放入的录音按钮,在本不应该出声的情况下,发出了钟的声音。这是一个需要观众来参与完成的作品,当钟锤悬挂在空中时是不会发出声音的,只有当观众一次次将巨大的钟锤摇晃起来撞向墙壁,仿佛挥舞着一个巨大的性器官,一次次的撞向墙壁(像是交配的动作)被发出来的钟声惊艳时,作品才算完成。我认为,观众的参与,反应,与体验,是应当成为我作品的一部分。我的作品通过颠覆日常物品的原有功能,将其置于不同的情境中,通过夸大陌生化的感觉,将对现今微观力量的反叛形象化。她的作品是从日常生活中人造物品出发,通过对物品正常功能的消除,制造荒诞感,探讨城市生活背后运作的权力体系。通过夸大陌生化的感觉,我希望鼓励观众不仅发现和体验脆弱性,而且被欺骗,并进一步质疑这个世界的惯例。
